’Tis the season to begin shopping for friends and family, and what better gift than something from Walloon Lake!
Antique lovers and those who appreciated repurposed treasures will enjoy any number of items inside the Vintage Mercantile. From whimsical ornaments, rustic home décor, linens and more, there is something for everyone at this charming store. And, while you’re in the building, head toward the back to the Rumpus Room for a tasty cup of cappuccino and pick up a gift card while you’re at it.
Tommy’s sells more than boats, they’ve got a full line of clothing for men and women. Whether you’re planning for next summer or a winter escape to warmer locales, you’ll find a variety of colors, patterns and styles. You can also find sunglasses, shoes and other accessories. Black Friday specials are offered November 24-27. Looking to give an experience instead? Tommy’s is offering two “Snowshoe by Candlelight” excursions (Saturday, February 12 and Saturday, February 19 from 7-9pm both nights).
From T-shirts to coasters, hats to stickers, fudge to local wine (and so much more), the Walloon Village General Store and Deli has a large selection of logoed items for all ages. You’ll also find lots of options for stocking stuffers or snacks for holiday gatherings.
Have a food lover on your shopping list? A gift certificate to either (or both) Barrel Back and Walloon Lake Inn are gifts that keep on giving. These can be used for on-site dining or take-out. We recommend the woodfired pizza from BB and the 3-courses for $50 (per person) at the historic inn.
Plan a romantic or family get-away with a stay at Hotel Walloon, in the heart of the village. While there, you can explore the local restaurants, shops or hit the area wineries or ski resorts. Military and First Responders who stay one night receive the second night free, throughout the entire months of March and November.
Membership in Walloon Lake Association is a perfect gift for the nature and conservation lover on your list. Since 1975, the Walloon Lake Trust and Conservancy has protected the natural beauty, character and quality of lands and waters in the Walloon Lake watershed. In addition to memberships, you can make a one-time donation, make a pledge, become a partner in conservation or leave a legacy. There are countless ways to give – on behalf of yourself or in the name of someone else. Click the link above for details.
Books by Walloon Lake’s most noted summer resident, Ernest Hemingway, also make great gifts. The Nick Adams Stories is a perfect choice, as many of the characters and settings in these short stories are set in local woods and waters. The Michigan Hemingway Society even has a self-guided “Michigan Hemingway Tour” map that you can use to explore the communities where this Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author spent the first 22 summers of his life!
